Single cell fuel gauge

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27510-G3, BQ27520-G4, BQ27320

Hi

We are consider battery charger IC BQ25895RTWT in product design and we need suitable fuel gauge monitor IC with I2C control and battery pack more then 10Amp.

Can you please suggest suitable fuel gauge IC ?

Thanks,

Alpesh

  • Hi Alpesh,
We have a variety of solutions that might meet your need. Can you kindly answer the questions below:
-What kind of application is this?
-is the battery going to be embedded or detachable?
-How much SOC accuracy are you expecting the gauge to provide.
-is board space a key concern?
-Is your load gonna be a constant 10A discharge or will the load be pulsing?
-is low cost a key concern?
-Will the application need to work at extremely low temperatures?
-How long are these batteries expected to last in the application?

the answer to these questions will help us narrow down a suitable gauge for your applciations,

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

    Thanks for your quick response.

Please see following answer for your question.

-What kind of application is this? Smart video capture application

-is the battery going to be embedded or detachable? Detachable with On Boards

-How much SOC accuracy are you expecting the gauge to provide.  High accuracy for measurement but we dont more idea for gauge related accuracy pls provide brief information for it.

-is board space a key concern? Not any Concern. We don't prefer fine pitch BGA

-Is your load gonna be a constant 10A discharge or will the load be pulsing? Not constant but it Pulsing and battery cell is 10AH

-is low cost a key concern? Cost is not matter

-Will the application need to work at extremely low temperatures? Not Extremely low but inside enclosure may be 45 degree temperature

-How long are these batteries expected to last in the application? Did not getting

Let me know if you need any more information.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Alpesh,
Since you need a single cell fuel gauge and the battery will be removable and you need high accuracy for state of charge measurement, either of our system side single cell gauges, the bq27510-G3 or the bq27520-G4. The difference between both is the packaging, one is QFN and the other CSP. Algorithm on both is the same which is impedance track. You could get 99% SOC accuracy over the lifetime of the battery.

A less accurate gauge over the lifetime of the battery is the bq27320 which uses our CEDV algorithm. you could get up to 98% SOC accuracy initially, but this number may degrade over the lifetime of the battery. This is a relatively simpler gauge to use though than the Impedance track gauges..

    thanks
