TPS62110 PFM Mode Options

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62110, TPS82084, TPS62060, TPS82692, TPS62085, TLV62084

Hello,

I've been looking for a Buck Regulator that can provide up to 1.5A and operate in PWM and PFM mode with input/output voltages of 3.7V / 2V. I found that the majority of the devices TI offers with PWM/PFM are rated for less than 1A, in fact only the TPS62110 has PFM mode and can provide up to 1.5A.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any devices as the TPS62110 doesn't quite hit the efficiency mark that I was hoping for.

Regards,

Hayden

  • Is your Vin a single cell battery and you need 2Vout at 1.5A? It's not entirely clear to me.

Most every TPS62 devices has PFM/PSM mode. Do you need something special here, like a forced PWM mode?
  • Thanks for your response Chris.

Yes, the Vin is a single cell battery (this is for a mobile application) and the output needed is 2.2V @ 1.5A max.

I did find a couple different solutions that hit the performance requirements (TPS82084 & TPS62060), but due to the mobile application a fixed voltage option would be better to reduce component count/solution size.

    Hayden
  • Ok, so nothing special around PFM/PWM other than a power save mode is needed.

If you can split up the load into 2 chunks, the TPS82692 is ideal.

Assuming not, yes TPS82084 is a module that can work and be small. TPS62085 or TLV62084 are discrete ICs with a small size for your power level. 2.2V is quite an oddball voltage, so we'll need to use 2 resistors to set it. These can be very small (0201 or smaller). It is more important to shrink the IC and power passives.
