BQ40Z60 wake up with batteries only

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Hello,

I want to wake up the bq40z60 and turn on the FETs when the battery is connected even if the AC adapter is not connected. I considered connecting ACP to the output of an OR-gate with diodes. The OR inputs are the battery voltage and the adapter voltage.

The scenario that worries me is: could ACP stay high after wake-up even if the AC Adapter is not connected?  If no, how long the battery voltage must be applied to wake up the device?

Thanks in advance

It is not good to keep the ACP powered when the adapter voltage is not present. We have a wake-up button and resistor on the EVM to wake the device. It connects the top of the battery stack to the adapter voltage.

  • Hello Tom,

I've been studying the bq40z60 documents, but I have too many doubts. I want to avoid a dedicated button to turn on/off the device because our keypad has multifunctional buttons. If the idea of diodes is not good then I'm considering using a low power microcontroller powered from battery or AC adapter to handle this situation. What do you think about that? How long must the battery voltage be applied to ACP for waking up the device?

    Thanks a lot!
