The bq24055 is linear charger without power path, so the discharge path does not go through the charger. Thus no discharge overcurrent detection or protection.
Regarding on the charge ovc protection, the charger has a ISET SHORT CIRCUIT TEST. If a short is detected on ISET pin, IOUT latches off after tDGL-SHORT.
This is because the current flow through ISET pin is proportional to the current go throught OUT pin. If ISET short is detected, then the IC thinks there is a excessive amount of current going out through OUT pin. Thus the output path latches off.
