about BQ76PL455 power rail

Hi ,

I have a question,why a single BQ76PL455 need an external  power supply (like a 3.3V from host),and then BQ76PL455 VP pin will get a  5.3V.  If there is no  external 3.3V,the voltage of VP is zero. thanks for your support.
