TPS564208 usage issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS564208

hi consultant

in my project,i used TPS564208 to convert 12V- 5V,   during power test,i found output voltage rised very fast when i touched the feedback circuit with my finger, if this operation held more seconds,  TPS564208 even was damaged and its case temperature ramped very high.i have asked local FAE but they did not give  actual analysis and root cause

besides, sechmatic and pcb layout were followed by the product spec and layout guide.

pls give me some analysis and advice   ths

  • Generally speaking, touching sensitive converter pins such as the feedback pin can cause erratic operation and sometimes damage.  Your touch can introduce unwanted stray impedances.  It is difficult to predict the exact mechanism because the nature of touching is random.  I recommend that you do not touch the IC during operation.

  • hi john

do other TI's power converter products also have this abnormal phenomenon?

and  i doubt it maybe not rucurrence  when do the air ESD verify test?

can the high precision resistor solve this issue

  • Some ICs may be more sensitive to this than others, but I think most all converters will be adversely affected by touching pins. And not just TI devices either. I think this generally holds true across all manufacturers.
