clarifications on MR# and VBMON needed for BQ25120

hi all,

a customer of mine is interested in using the BQ25120 but we have some problems understanding the functionality of MR# and the Voltage Based Battery Monitor (section 9.3.4 of the datasheet)...

could you provide a clearer and/or more detailed description of these 2 points?

hi Gautham,

here we are:

1) how to use the Push button mechanism (latch) with the Charger IC (BQ25120) to power on and off the output
Short press – Power ON
Long press (~2sec) – Power OFF

2) What I’m interested in is to determine the depth of discharge by reading battery capacity with increment of 2% between empty (~5%) to full (100%), please advise if the charger can implement something similar or not

3) in the picutre on page 19 there is VREF that occurs only once in the whole document... what is that?

Vincenzo,

Sorry for the delay while I've been swamped.

1. Turning ON comes standard by pressing the MR pin when you are exiting ship mode. You can configure the wake2 timer to INT back to the host which will read the wake condition on I2C and send a ship mode command.

2. since we are comparator based this will be hard to do on the BQ25120

3. I am checking on where this reference is coming from.
