Customer asked:

I am using the Fuel gauge BQ27425-G2A together with Swing 5300 from Boston Power.

I am concerned about inrush current and short circuit capability of the current sensor in BQ27425-G2A.

Inrush current could get higher than 3500mA when plugging in the battery package. Is this OK for BQ27425-G2A?

What if the Over Current protection from the battery package PCM is higher than 3500mA? (4A to 6A within 15ms)

Hi Robert,

The typical value for the integrated sense resistor is 10 mOhm while Vsr is rated for +/- 40 mV. Based on these numbers from the datasheet, up to 4000 mA could flow through the integrated sense resistor so 3500 mA should be fine.

Robert,

I should clarify that I have not attempted to drive this much current through a bq27425 myself but as long as this is a short pulse, I believe it should be fine.
