Hi

Recently a question came up if it is possible to control UCD9244 from DSP (C6678). Up until now our HW team would program the Power Controller using TI’s GUI tool.

HW team verified that UCD9244 is connected to the DSP via GPIO Pins so DSP should have a working interface.

It looks like PMBus Command Protocol is used via I2C interface to communicate with the Power Controller.

Is there an existing driver we can leverage?
We’d like to be able to detect any faults via an interrupt and read which faults occurred.

We’re trying to gage how much work might be required. If drivers are not available and we have to do everything from scratch it might be not be trivial.

If you have any suggestion on the best path forward please let us know.
Any links, documents, sample code that might be helpful would be greatly appreciated.

If UCD9244 is faulty, is DSP still powered?

You will need a PMBus host driver. We don't have such code.

The documents you need are I2C spec, SMBus 2.0 spec, PMBus spec 1.1., and UCD92xx PMBus reference.

Thanks for the links.

We can read faults after the next reboot when DSP is running since they are stored on Power Controller.

The following link contains PMBus Library but I'm not sure if its compatible with our HW.

Are you familial with this library? Is this something we could use?

From what I can see it will be a big effort to implement the interface. Definitely more than few days.

Definitely more than a few days.

Not familiar with the library but looks like it is for msp MCUs. Your DSP may have different I2C registers.

Also, the PMBus host and PMBus slave have different drivers. Be sure you get a host driver.
