I have a few questions about the LM3914 Dot / Bar Display Driver that I couldn't find answers to in the datasheet.
Instead of single LEDs I'm using sets of 3 LEDs in series with a current limiting resistor already in place, ensuring a draw of 13.75mA. How will this affect the programmable current limit of the LM3914? If I don't have the resistor between Ref Out and ground as depicted in the datasheet on page 8, will the LM3914 have a high programmed limit which allows the full current from the LEDs to flow?
The datasheet lists a maximum LED current of 13mA. What happens if this is exceeded? I may put more LEDs in parallel, doubling the required current. Is this possible to do using one LM3914, or will I need to stack it with another?
Thanks in advance.
