Difference between bq27411 and bq27441

Hi,

I'm using bq27411. I found some in the forum said that bq27411 must use OTP to program some parameters before use and bq27441 doesn't need.

      I have several questions:

Q1: What are the parameters that need to be programmed with OTP?

I've read the datatheet and Techenical Reference of bq27411, but didn't found those parameters.

The datasheet mentioned   <SmartFlash OTP Programming(SLUA703)>, but I didn't find it on the TI web. Can somebody give me a link?

Q2:Can I use bq27411 without OTP programming? Can I write those pamameters by directly accessing the Data Memory?

It is said in the Techenical Reference:

And in the 3.1 segment, it gives a example which modifies the Desgin Capacity parameter.

    Q3:The datasheet of bq27441 said:

So, bq27441 also need OTP programming? If that, what's the difference between 27411 and 27441?

Q4:Is there any program example of bq27411 on the TI web or third party web?

    Thank you.

Frank

  • The bq27411 is intended to be installed on the battery pack, the bq27441 was designed to be part of the system (not the battery pack).

You don't have to program OTP - you can load the gauge configuration by writing to data memory after a power on reset (the gauge will initialize data memory parameters from OTP during power on). If the OTP is not programmed, the gauge's data memory will mostly be initialized with zeros (except for some parameters, e.g. chemistry data).
  • Hi Dominik Hartl11,

Thank you very much for reply!
But bq27441 also has OTP feature, according to the datasheet.
What are the main features that bq27411 have, that makes it "intended to be installed on the battery pack", that makes it different from bq27441?
In my system, I used bq27411, as part of the system. I should have chosen bq27441, but I made a mistake. Can I just use bq27411 instead of bq27441?
    Thank you.

    Frank
  • Yes, the bq27441 has OTP also (you don't have to program it if you use your host uC to program your system specific gauging parameters into data memory).

The bq27411 and bq27441 are pin compatible - the bq27441 has a BIN pin to detect battery insertion (it supports removable batteries) instead of the test pin. Is your battery removable? If so, please use the bq27441 and the BIN pin to detect a battery.
