Watchdog ICs with Monostable Output

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3820

Team,

Do we offer a watchdog IC that, if it times out, the output is monostable?

For example, the microcontroller pings the watchdog IC and the output is in one state under normal operation. If the microcontroller fails and is no longer pinging the watchdog IC, the watchdog times out and changes state, and stay in that state until the microcontroller comes back.

It seems like most ICs will toggle their output when in a "failed" state.

  • Hello Michael,

In our SVS + Watchdog devices, the primary function is still the SVS.  The watchdog functionality does not become active until the SVS is out of reset (/RESET = logic high).

For example, after a watchdog timeout for TPS3820, /RESET transitions to logic low.  /RESET will only return to logic high after the SVS conditions for a logic high /RESET are satisfied (td after Vdd is above Vit).  Only after /RESET returns logic high does the watchdog circuitry become active.

    Best Regards,

    Samuel
