TPS23861 questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23861

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating the TPS23861 now and have some questions about the chip?

1.What does the A  and R mean?

2. Why we need the mark and the mark voltage?

3. how to decide the I2C address if we only use one TPS23861?

Thank you.

BR

  • Hi Frank,

    Please see my comments below.

    1. Please check the note under register map in datasheet.

      (1) Bits labeled "R" are reserved. Undesirable behavior may result if the value of these bits are changed from the reset value.
      (2) Bits labeled “A” assume the state of the bit programmed into register 0x11 after POR.

    2. After successful detection, PSE starts classification by sending voltage signal(class voltage and mark voltage) and at the same time, PD removes detect resistor on the port and presents class resistor. If PD determines the classification signal is valid, PD will turn on the internal LDO which applies 2.5V across the class resistor. PSE measures the current going through the class resistor and recognize class level of the PD.
    3. Please check the datasheet section 7.7.13.  The default address of TPS23861 is 0x20/0x28, depending on A3 pin status. You could also check our reference code: http://www.ti.com/product/TPS23861/toolssoftware

    Best regards,
