I am using a LM3401 to power a light project I am working on and have gotten down to my final component selection, but I am having trouble with the inductor. I can't figuring out if that current rating for the inductor needs to be above the total LED current or if it just needs to be higher than the IL nominal ripple current displayed in the component calculator sheet provided by TI. The data sheet for the device seems to be a little fuzzy on the topic, or maybe I am just not understanding it correctly.
