TPS73033 Inrush current

Hi team,

We use the TPS73033 Vin: 5V and Vout: 4.8V to measure the output inrush current with Cin: 4.8uF and Cout: 2.2uF.

The test result show as below.

You can see the Transient Response (enable) the Iout go to 412 mA then down to 0A

Why the current limit doesn't work?

What value is our maximum recommend Cout?

What sequence are recommend for En and Vin?

Does this inrush current damage TPS73033?

Thanks.

Prescott

  • Hi Prescott,

Many LDOs have a delay on startup before current limit kicks in. This is what allows such a fast startup by allowing the inrush current to quickly charge the output capacitors.

As shown in the Recommended Operating Conditions Table, TLV730 was designed and characterized for applications where Ven maximum is Vin. As such Vin should be sequenced before Ven if the two are not tied together.

Inrush current should not damage TLV730. The current will kick in to limit the current.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
