TPS54295 Internal regulator operation with VIN<5.5V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54295

Hi Team,

I am Khai Lee, FAE in TI Korea

TPS54295 has an internal regulator(Vreg5) which output is fixed to 5.5V and it is to generate reference voltages on feedback block.

However, what if VIN is lower than 5.5V? In the datasheet input voltage range of TPS54295 is 4.5~18V.

It seems not possible to use LDO to generate 5.5V with VIN=4.5V

Please check and confirm input voltage can go lower than 5,5V as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Khai

  • The VREG5 regulator is an LDO from VIN. VREG5 is nominally 5.5 V at VIN above 6 V. But valid VREG5 voltages can be lower. See the UVLO ratings on page 4 of the datasheet.
  • Hi Khai,

Yes, the input voltage can go lower than 5.5V. but under this circustance, you won't be able to get a 5.5V, you will get a voltage which is very close to VIN.

the VREG5 UVLO threshold is 3.83 (see datasheet page 4), so no issue to work with 4.5V input.

VREG5 is not necessary to reach to 5.5V for internal reference to be ready.

    Thanks.
