CHG & DSG pumps

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ30Z55
Here are two “Pin Equivalent Diagram” in bq30z55 and bq40z50.
– The former : CHG & DSG pumps are powered by PACK pin.
– The latter:  CHG & DSG pumps are powered by BAT pin.
However, DSG pump of some gauges powered by PACK pin which can drive D-FET channel wider when low V charging.
May I learn from you why we adopt BAT pin drive pumps to replace PACK pin? Any pros and cons for this?
  • They simplified the power path in the bq40z devices by removing the charge pump from the Pack pin. This allowedthe pin to be lower current. The DSG FET is still referenced to the Pack pin. The current drive for the charge pump was just moved.
