BQ34Z110 NRND same functionality as BQ34Z100-G1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ34Z110, BQ34Z100

Hi Team,

I noticed that the BQ34Z110 is NRND and new designs should use the BQ34Z100-G1. In the NRND statement, it says that the BQ34Z100-G1 "has the SAME FUNCTIONALITY and PINOUT as the compared device but is NOT an exact equivalent."

Can you provide more details on the SAME FUNCTIONALITY statement? Does this mean that the device has the same hardware, but different software?

Thank you,

Jared

  • Hi Jared,

By "bq23z110", did you perhaps mean the bq34z110?

As far as I know, the bq34z110 and the bq34z100-G1 use the same silicon (hence the same pinout), but use different firmware. They aren't considered an exact equivalent because directly copying the Data Flash contents of the bq34z110 to the bq34z100-G1 will result in a bricked chip. Since both are Impedance Track gauges (just that the bq34z110 was intended for Lead-Acid applications and the bq34z100-G1 is multi-chemistry), they both serve the function of an advanced Lead-Acid gas gauge.

    Jason

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for the response. I did mean to put the BQ34Z110 and changed it in my post. Also, I have heard that there is a next gen for the BQ34Z100-G1. The most critical factor of the fuel gauge is that it does not go EOL. Is there a newer version that I should be recommending?

    Thank you,
    Jared

The bq34z100-G1 is the recommended replacement for the bq34z100, bq34z110 and bq34z120 devices. It supports PbA cells and has added functionality to improve performance for use cases such as transient or pulsed type loads. There are data flash changes, so you cannot import the DF directly into the new device. You can program the old device with the bq34z100-G1 firmware that is available for download from the product website.
