LM2592HV design from webench

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2592HV

I have a design using the LM2592HV with the designed using maximum efficiency.

It's so simple with a low parts count.

But what i find is that it does not let me pull the full 2 amps. When i pull one amp the voltage does not regulate to 5v it drops to 4.5 volts.

Looking on the scope and comparing to the pictures on the data sheet under no load the regulator looks perfect just like the data sheet.

under a 750ma the pulse duration is 2us like it shows for the full 2 amps in the data sheet but if i increase the load the pulse duration does not increase and

the voltage drops. I cannot get more than 750 ma out of it before the voltage drops The regulator is not hot and i used the correct components from the webebch BOM. My layout is similar but not exact to the one that TI created and the only thing that is much different is the fB pin does not do the long trace to the output

pins like shown on the reference PCB. its just connected to the V+ pin close to the regular and the inductor. I cant see that causing an issue but i can lift a pin and add a 0.5 inch wire if any gurus out there think its an issue.

Parts were purchased from mouser and should not be a counterfeit part.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Short wire on FB is preferred.
Please check the power supply current limit in your setup. If the current limit is too low on the supply, such behavior could happen. Please monitor Vin at the same time when you increase load current.
    Hope this helps.
