BQ76940 + BQ78350-R1 SMBus logic level

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, BQ78350-R1, BQ78350

Hi all,

I've noticed that BQ76940 had different P/Ns with different internal LDO.

the LDO (REGOUT) will feed the BQ78350-R1 VCC.

My question:
if I choose BQ76940 with a 2.5V LDO, but pull up the !KEYIN, !PRES, SMBUS lines to 3.3V level, will it hurt the IC?

I guess I can pull down !PRESS and !KEYIN on client side to operate, but will SMBUS work? (usually it is secure up to 5.5V).

regards, Ran

  • Yes, it will work. Note that for the bq78350 and bq78350-R1, section 8.3 of the datasheet, while the recommended VCC is 2.5V, the Vin for SMBD, SMBC, !PRES and KEYIN has a maximum of 5.5V. These pins are not limited by VCC.
