TPS61029 max duty cycle

Dear Support team

My customer use TPS61029.And on some board,there is the trace that the electric double-layer capacitor expanded by heat.

We investigates a cause. Customer suppose that Nch FET may be turned on high duty cycle.

Please teach about below question and give advice.

Q1)How much is max duty of TPS61029?

Q2)Is it  possible that TPS61029 operate in max duty cycle on the following condition?

◆Condition

Vin:2.6~4.8V

Vout:5V

Iout 580mA max

notice: Load is Electric double-layer capacitor(470mF)

  • The maximum duty cycle of this device is higher than 80%. At the operating condition you mention the maximum duty cycle will be in the range of 50% (2.6V to 5V conversion). If you have a 580mA load current most likely the switch current limit is controlling the operation. But this is not a cause for excessive heat.
    So I am no sure whether I understood the problem correctly. What are you trying to solve?
  • the maximum duty cycle should be not a problem at the application condition. could you please share the detail about the problem met? a waveform of the problem would help much
