PMIC for Arria V

Hi

My customer use Arria V.
I will suggest PMIC.
Is PMIC for Arria V TPS650860?
If this is correct, is there reference design?
Best regards,
Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

TPS65086x may be a good fit, but what we have found is that the current requirements for Arria designs can be orders of magnitude different depending on the configuration. We have seen designs with a couple of amps max to tens of amps max, so optimal PMIC choice may vary. We are not currently working on an Arria V design for this reason, as well as the relatively low volume.

Do you have approximate power requirements for their design?

  • Hi LoRosa-san

    Thank you for the answer.
    They require power about 9.3W.

    Best regards,
    Yokota
  • Hi Yokota-san,

That is a start and would likely indicate that they have a mid-size solution where TPS650860 would be a possible fit.

Have they have a filled out Power Play Estimator: https://www.altera.com/support/support-resources/operation-and-testing/power/pow-powerplay.html

If so, that would be an easy way to provide a good PMIC for their particular use case. For these FPGAs, there does not tend to be a one-size fits all power solution. If they haven't done the Power Play Estimator, then information on their designed rails and currents would be necessary.

Additionally, what input voltage are they using? 1S - 4S battery, 5V, 12V, 24V, etc. all impact which PMIC may be best for them.

Please note that unless volume is large for this opportunity, they would likely need to pair with a small MSP430 (G2121 for example) to set voltage and do sequencing for their design. We are developing sample code for this which should make it easy to pair.
