Dear BCP team,

I'm looking for an equivalent solution to maxim part# MAX77818 (see attached DS). As far as I know we do not offer a battery charger with gas gauge function integrated.

A discrete solution is acceptable for my customer. So please feel free to suggest discrete solution (charger + gas gauge ICs).

Thanks

Paul

  • Hey Paul,

Take a look at the BQ40z60. It is an integrated charger and gauge for 2-4S battery packs.

However, it does not have the OTG feature or any USB detection features.

  • Dear Hernandez

Beside OTG and USB detection feature ,does BQ40Z60 have any benefit than MAX77818 ??
Could you kindly share your experience ??

    Thanks
  • Hey Kai,

I can't speak for the MAX77818 as this is a TI moderated forum, however I can speak to the unique features the bq40z60 includes.

    1) Provides integrated cell-balancing for multi-cell applications and cell-detach detection.

    2) Allows for external scalable charge current efficiency

    3) Internal 16b ADC for battery voltage, charge/discharge current, and temperature measurements.

    4) Brownout protection via the PBI pin and switchover between BAT and VCC supplies.

    5) Up to 32A of maximum programmable charge current (barring FullChargeCapacity)

If you need the OTG ability and gauge functionality, I would also suggest using these three charger + gauge pairs that provide autonomous control of battery management through the gauge (barring proper learning cycle and programming):

    bq2425x charger + bq27532-G1 gauge

    bq2419x charger + bq27531-G1 gauge

    bq2416x charger + bq27530-G1 gauge

    I hope this helps!

    Regards,
