TPS7B6950 Short circuit current

Hello,
I want optimize design of one my customer. Now they using Microchip MCP1790.
I found p2p from TI - TPS7B6950. All's good but one question.

Short  circuit current,
If we'll looking for table values that MCP1790 has typical value as high as Vr/10 = 5/10 = 0.5A

There we are better because we have maximum value 0.5A

But latter Microchip provide graph where typical current is much lower - just about 110 mA. Customer test it and сonfirmed that it typical value.

So there TPS7B6950 worse that Microchip.

Can TI check our short current values and provide the same graph? I think that TI LDO should be better in this parameter too. But it's not described in datasheet.

  • Hi Vladimir,

TPS7B6950 is 150mA LDO, and the short circuit current limit level is higher than 150mA, typical value would be about 180~200mA.

MCP1790 output current capability is lower, it is only 70mA LDO, and its short circuit current limit level should be lower.

For our device, we could support more load than MCP1790, but current limit level is higher.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Jason
