BQ34Z651 Full Charge Capacity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z651

Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue where sometimes the BQ34Z651 changes the Full Charge Capacity to a value much smaller than what it should be (17000mWh vs. 84000mWh). This has the roll-on effect of causing charging to terminate much earlier than expected.

I have not been able to identify what is causing this and as this value is modified internally within the device I am unable to reset it. Following a couple of charging/discharging cycles it seems to figure out this error on it's own and the Full Charge Capacity returns to a reasonable number. But as this issue seems to occur randomly I am unable to fully test whether this is the case.

So my questions are:

What is the most likely cause of his issue?

Is there any way I can force the device to re-calculate this value so I don't have stunted battery for a number of cycles?

Thanks,

David

  • Hi David,

Do you know when this behavior occurs? Does it happen during charge/discharge or at rest? If you have a log file of this event occurring, I can take a look.

You want to force the device to perform a FCC simulation. Try issuing a reset command to the gauge.

    Best Regards,
