BQ28Z610 Modes of Operation

Good morning,

For the three modes of operation for the gas gauge (charge, relax, and discharge), when the technical reference manual refers to charge or discharge mode being "exited" and relax mode being "entered", does "exited" mean that the charge or discharge flags are set or cleared? The terminology is confusing based on the state diagram.

Thank you for your time.

  • Hi Blake,
When the gauge is in charge mode, the dsg flag in battery status register will be cleared. When in relax and discharge mode, the dsg flag will be set.

The chg and dsg flags being set in operation status register means the charge and discharge fets are turned on.
    thanks

  • Onyx,

Thank you for the response. As a follow up question...

For the CHG and DSG relax time periods, is there a reason based on your experience that I might want to have a longer time for the CHG rest period than the DSG rest period? I was curious based on the default values.

    Thanks
  • Battery voltages get to be relaxed quicker after charge than after discharge. This is an inherent characteristic of batteries

    thanks
