ESR requirement on TPS65132B

customer want to know the effective ESR requirement of input cap for TPS65132B.

Thank you.

  • Hello Given,

The recommended input and output capacitors from the TPS65132B are from Murata and there you can get the information about the ESR characteristics.
Murata is providing a very useful tool, SimSurfing where you can analyze the characteristics of many capacitors.

As an example, this is the ESR vs. frequency curve for the input capacitor:

You can find all recommended components from Murata in this tool and get the characteristic curves.

    Best Regards.

  • Hello Ilona,

so if customer want to use caps from other vendors ( not Murata), they also need to satify the ESR of Murata caps, right? But I think it's hard to match the whole curve of ESR. Thank you.

    Given
  • Hello Given,

Customer may use capacitors from other vendors which match the recommendations in datasheet regarding effective capacitance and else (see capacitor selection section on D/S page 27). It is not necessary to have the same ESR vs frequency curve. In general, using a capacitor with a low ESR is recommended.

  • Hi Diaara,

Thanks for your reply. But customer feedback they need a specified value for ESR, for example, <50mohm. Then it's easier for them to choose cap. Can we provide such requirement? Thank you.

    Given

  • Hello Given,

You can take the ESR value of the above ESR characterization curve as an indication. As an example the ESR should be in the range of 3 mOhm at 1 MHz.

    Best Regards.
