BQ24050 related query

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24050, BQ24052, BQ24040

- Which is the best of this family from cost, availability point of view
- ISET2 we are tying to GND. We are not using USB power. OK ?
- D+ and D- are left floating. OK ?
- When input power to the charger IC is not there we still want to sense the battery NTC value. Any recommendations ?

Regards,

  • Srinivas,

The bq24050 and bq24052 are priced the same and availability will be similar.

What charge current do you need?  If ISET2 = GND, then the resistance on ISET programs the current.

When VIN is not applied, the charger is off and cannot monitor the NTC function.  If NTC is required outside of that another device must be used for monitoring the NTC.

The D+/D- pins are used to check for an adapter through the USB port.  Floating D+ and D- might delay the recognition of the Adapter.

Have you considered the bq24040. Similar device to the bq24050, but the D+ is replaced by a power good pin (/PG) and the D- is not used.  I have not completed a full review, but it should be a drop-in replacement.  If the /PG pin is not used, it can definitely float.

    Regards,

    Dick
