USB SAA GUI issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP175

Hello Team,

I have a customer who is facing issues when using the USB SAA GUI.

USB to GPIO firmware loader can detect the adapter, but the USB SAA GUI 1.10 says "Adapter not attached".  The customer wants to use USB to GPIO utility to send some I2C commands to the TMP175. OS is windows 7.

" I CAN’T communicate with the pod when I use the USB Interface Adapter GUI-v1.10 provided sllc288.

I don’t particularly care if I get the USB Interface Adapter GUI-v1.10 to run, or some other software.  I do expect that TI would provide a firmware/software combination for the adapter/PC that would allow a generic. Please confirm if TI provides any firmware/software combination for the adapter/PC that would allow a modern (Windows 7 or 10) PC to talk to a generic I2C device such as a TMP175."

I appreciate your input to resolve this issue.

Sincerely,

Kishen

  • Download and install the Fusion Digital Power Designer software (not the Fusion Digital Power Studio), found here:

    www.ti.com/.../fusion_digital_power_designer digital power designer&tisearch=Search-EN-Everything

They won't actually use the Fusion software, instead they will use a tool located in the Fusion Power folder.

Navigate through the Windows Start --> All Programs --> Texas Instruments Fusion Digital Power Designer (folder) --> Tools (folder) --> SMBus & I2C & SAA Debug Tool.

Basic tool that allows you to enter an address then write/read individual commands in I2C and SMBus with the USB-to-GPIO (SAA) adapter.

  • Hello guys
was there ever a manual or help page created for the SMBus /I2C / SAA Tool ? I'm trying to use this right now to debug a Piccolo processor's I2C assigned SDA & SCL lines.

    thanks

  • There is a User's Guide.

  • So Bard, everything in Windows XP references in sllu093 will still apply if one uses Windows 7,8, or 10 (32 bit mode) in the device using the SMBUS /I2C/SAA tool? I know I'd be dreaming if it will ever be 64bit compatible...
    Jim
  • Sorry, I answered in reference to the USB-to-GPIO tool specifically and not to the SMBUS /I2C/SAA tool bundled with the Fusion Digital Power Designer GUI, didn't see the references in the previous posts.

The Fusion GUI and the bundled tools are compatible with the 7, 8, and 10 versions of Windows(32-bit ).

The document which I previously referenced was specific to the USB-to-GPIO.
The software referenced in this document is included in the Reference GUIs and Libraries for Eval and Usage of the USB Interface Adapter download on the USB-to-GPIO webpage but this has not been updated beyond Windows XP.
The hardware references from this document would still be relevant and any references to the I2C/SMBus protocol should be as well.
