TLV70728 maximum output capacitor

Hello E2E,

TLV70728 is used for powering camera in mobile phone.

Camera module vendor recommended to use 15uF or higher capacitor on its input for stable power supplying without any voltage drop.

TLV70728 already has its output capacitor 1uF, so total capacitance is 16uF in same node. Is it okay for TLV70728?

What is maximum capacitance can be connected on output of TLV70728?

What problem could be observed if there's high output cap like 100uF?

Hi Kenneth,

16uF should be fine for TLV707. This device was developed targeting small mobile solutions. As such the majority of the characterization was done with smaller capacitors in order to minimize solution size.

We did not characterize TLV707 with 100uF. The main concerns would be inrush current and startup.

I guess TLV707 has constant current mode on start-up, and higher output capacitor takes slower charge up time. Right?

Is there stability concern on too high capacitance like 100uF?

Hi Kenneth,

Yes a higher output capacitor will take longer to charge. Initially the LDO will allow inrush current to flow; however, the current limit will engage. At this point the current will be constant for the remainder of startup.

We have not tested or characterized TLV707 with a 100uF capacitor.
