BQ25895:How to simultaneously charge the battery and boost the battery to 5V for USB output?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895, TPS61089

Hi, team

My customer just wants to using BQ25895 for the power bank. but they needs the power bank can support this requirement:
when the input voltage is ready(5V-12V), they needs to charge the battery, simultaneously, they also needs to boost the battery to 5V for USB output.
as you known, the 5V output is from the battery and boost it via PMID pins.but the  PMID is become 12V(via the RBFET diode). my customer needs 5V.
how to solve this?

Do it needs to add a extra boost such as TPS61089? the cost is too high if we add a boost.

Waiting your comments.

Thanks.

  • We do not have a single device that will charge and boost a battery.

The bq25895 can only perform one at a time, either boost mode (OTG) or charge mode (which is buck mode essentially).

You will need a secondary boost converter connected to the battery in order to boost.

I am not sure what you mean by "using it for the power bank"? Do you mean OTG mode on PMID?
