TPS659037 custom power sequence

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS659037, TPS65086

Hello,

Is it possible to use the TPS659037 for custom voltage/sequence configurations by using I2C commands to overwrite the OTP reset values before the rails are enabled?  Or does the part always enable the output rails at power-on-reset before the user can update voltage levels over I2C?

Thanks,
Keith N.

  • Hi Keith,

It's not possible to write a custom sequence to the device using I2C. The device always uses the pre-programmed power-up sequence and boot voltages, there is no way to overwrite that. Only after the device is booted up and in the ON state can you start writing to the device to change its dynamic settings.

  • It's possible for the TPS65086 to do this. It has I2C available as soon as VSYS has power and a 3.3V always-on LDO to power the MCU. The TPS65086 is designed to support an "embedded controller" (MCU) that does system management instead of the main application processor.
  • Thank you!

The TPS65086 was under consideration as well, but at this point, I think the decision has been made to just use separate POL's with an embedded MCU to control sequencing.

I will definitely keep this part in mind for the next power system that needs custom sequencing.

    Keith
