LP8556 MAX CURRENT SETTING QUESTION

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8556

Dear all:

I have some confuse on the current setting of LP8556 with I2C  function, Let me double confirm below questions:

The <25mA/ch is optimized in TI factory, if customer want to change the Maximal current, they can set register in EPROM through I2C(it need IC support I2C master), Is it correct?

Now I suggest customer to use LM8556-E02, it  support I2C master, if my understand is correct, customer can set the Maximal current to 50mA/ch in EPROM and use I2C to do the dimming. Do you agree?

thanks!

  • You're right. Max current scale can be reprogrammed, but this is changing just register value, not EPROM value, so same register should be programmed at every power up to change max current setting. This is pretty common application case.

Custom version with higher max current may be available depending on biz case. In that case, EPROM default value can be 50mA, and system doesn't need to reprogram every time.

    Hope this helps,
