TPS54334 - About behavior of the device when EN is Low

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54334

Hi Team,

Our customer are evaluating TPS54334 at the following conditions.

May I use TPS54334 in the case2?

We worry about “the reverse current(from VOUT to VIN)” and “the device is failed”.

However, I guess that it is no problem because TPS54334 have pre bias function.

Is my understanding correct?

And, could you please let us know if you have any concern?

[Conditions]

VIN=5V

Case1:VOUT=3.6V when EN=High (Enable)

Case2:VOUT=5V (The voltage is applied from the outside(other power supply).) when EN=LOW (shut down)

  • From the datasheet block diagram, you can find that there is one body diode from SW to VIN, now EN=Low, VOUT=5V, VIN=5V, since the diode has some forward voltage, so VOUT 5V will not back through to VIN, but if VIN is lower to like 4.3V with diode forward voltage drop, VOUT voltage will back to VIN.

  • Hi Milo-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understand that “the reverse current(from VOUT to VIN)” and “the device is failed” doesn’t occur if VIN=VOUT=5.0V and EN=Low.
