bq24616/about relation of charge status outputs to Adapter disconnect

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24616

Hi,

Could you tell me about bq24616 status pin?
Is it correct in following understanding in adapter disconnect condition?

・STAT1/OFF
・STAT2/OFF
・Not charging error

When disconnecting the adapter during charging, and concerned to become a charging error.
Please give me your advice.

Best regards,
Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Yusuke,

The STAT and /PG pins are active low logic pins. In other words, if the logic for that pin is "true" the MOSFET turns on, and the pin is pulled to ground.

So, you are correct. If the adapter is disconnected both STAT1 and STAT2 should be false. That is, the internal FET should be off and the pin pulled up to whichever rail you have it connected too.

If it helps, you can think of it this way: There is no adapter, therefore no battery charging can occur. If no battery charging can occur, then the battery charging logic is all false or a "don't care" condition.

  • Daivid-san,

    Thank you for your support.
    I understand your explanation.
I will explain it to the customer.

    Best regards,

  • Daivid-san,

Let me ask you one more thing.
Is there timing when STAT1 and STAT2 turn ON at the same time?
It was not mentioned in the data sheet description.

    ・STAT1/ON
    ・STAT2/ON

Could you give me your advice?

    Best regards,
    Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hi Yusuke,

bq24616 all charge states could be shown as STAT1 and STAT2 are in table 2, which you posted. There is no both STAT1/STAT2 turn-on condition in bq24616.

    Thanks,

    Ann Lien
