Asking for how to set the BQ24190 charging current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24190

Hi team,
My customer is evaluating BQ24190 now. They have no idea how to set the charging current. the charging current is only 120mA on the BQ24190EVM-021.

Enviroment setup:
1. Bq24190EVM-021 :CE PIN connect to GND (JP5), Jump PULLUP (JP3)
2.input VBUS has the power supply
3. the output load BAT connect either to battery (H103450 1850mA) or Keithley 2302 single channel battery simulater.
4. customer tried to tune the R15 resistor. The charging current is still the same.

Can you provide your suggestion how to tune the charging current?

Thanks,
SHH

  • Hello SHH,

The charge current must be programmed via the I2C interface. This will require the "USB-to-GPIO Communication Kit" (HPA172-USB Interface Adapter) allowing you to run the GUI for the bq24190 on your laptop and make register setting changes.

There is no pin to set the charge current, only the input current limit, which is what R15 does.

By default however, the charge current on the device 2.048A. You may be hitting some input regulation of the device. Only way to check is through the status registers on the device.
