BQ34Z950 disable LED display

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z950, BQ34Z100, BQ34Z100-G1

Hi ,

My project plan to use BQ34Z950 TI IC but not used LED display.

If I floating the Pin 8 (REG33), LED1-LED5 (Pin 23-Pin 27), and pull high Pin 21 (DISP), the IC still can be work, right?

Thank you.

  • Yes, the device should still work properly with those pin conditions.
  • Hi,
My project plan to use BQ34Z950 TI IC too. but i did not get the IC's supporting discharge current limitation from the BQ34Z950 manual. Would you like to tell me the diacharge current limitation? I will be grateful for your kindness.
    Thank you.
  • The current register is a signed 16-bit register, so it can support +/- 32A. You can use current scaling, if you need to support more that 32A. You will also need to size the sense resistor to not violate the max voltage spec across the SRP and SRN pins on the gauge and to keep from tripping the hardware based over current and shorted load fault protection thresholds.
  • ThomasCosby,
Thank you very much for your answer. It helps me out. I want to know that is there any manual or detailed example about using BQ34Z950 supporting more than 32A? If anything, could you please delivery to mailbox yanfeiteng@mail.sdu.edu.
    Thanks again.

My project plan to gauge remaining capacity of 4 serials Li-Poly battery. Which one is more proper between BQ34Z100 and BQ34Z950 with supporting more than 32A?
I feel sorry to disturb you, and will appreciate you.
  • Current scaling will be required when using either device. The bq34z100-G1 is just a gauge, so it does not provide individual cell balancing or protection. The bq34z950 provides gauging, cell monitor, cell balancing, FET control, etc., so it would provide a more complete solution. I assume that you are considering these two devices, because you need a DQ interface.
