TPS62160 Low Vin / High Duty Cycle jitter

Hello,

TPS62160 appears to have switching jitter at low input voltage and high duty cycle. The below conditions and measurements were made on the TPS62160EVM. Output voltage was set to 3.3V. This same behavior was also seen on prototype boards.

4.20V - 4.36V @ 200mA

4.33V - 4.50V @ 400mA

4.59V - 4.74V @ 800mA

Can you comment if this is normal behavior, and if so, is there a way to avoid it by adjusting the external component values?

Hi,

Did you use an electronic load? If yes, please try a resistor as load an see if its still there.

Hello Michael,

The load was a resistor. Also tried using a different lab supply to power the EVM; same results.

If this is a predictable behavior of the part, can the inductor value be changed to help move the minimum input voltage where this hiccup occurs?

Hi Keith,

What are the main concerns? It looks the device behavior is due to very high duty cycle close to 100% mode.
Could you share the power supply requirement in terms of input voltage, output voltage and load current range ?
