BQ78350 charging control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ76930

Hi,

Can BQ78350 control charging speed and charging stop/start?

Customer wants to set charging current to 1C and charging start at 3.5V and charging stop at 3.6V.

Cell number is 8s but there is not charger for 8s.

So customer is considering BQ78350 and BQ76930 even though they are protection and gauge.

Does these solution control required charging condition?

Could you explain how can control charging speed in technical reference 46p 5. charge algorithm?

Thanks.

The charging algorithm is not quite that sophisticated. The parameters allow you to set the pre-charge start and stop voltages and pre-charge current. It also allows you to set the fast charging current and voltage to be broadcast to the smart charger, but it does not limit the current and voltage to these values. You should be able to use the pre-charge parameters for your thresholds, if you are using a smart charger. You could set the Pre-charge start voltage to 3500mV and the Pre-charge stop voltage to 3600mV. You can set the Pre-charge current to your desired current. If you set the Fast charge current to 0, then that gauge should broadcast this current to the smart charger. I have not tried these, but it should work.
