AC90-130V input 80V/18.75A output 1500W solution suggestion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28180, UCC28070

Dear Sir

There are two solution UCC28180/UCC28070 on website for PFC controller. which one sutiable for the AC90-130V input  80V/18.75A output 1500W application.because there are a lot gap on the price. tks!

sincerely

Tiger

  • Hello Tiger,

I have alerted the appropriate group to address your questions about the PFC controllers.

  • Hello Tiger,

The UCC28180 and the UCC28070 are both boost type pfc controller so the output DC voltage will be greater than the peak of the AC input.

For a 130Vac max input you should consider using a bus voltage of about 200Vdc minimum.

For an 80V  output you will need a post regulator stage that could be an LLC or phase shifted full bridge.

The UCC28180 is an 8 pin CCM type pfc controller that can be used at 1.5kW

For example TIDA00779 is a 3.5kW reference design based on the UCC28180

The UCC28070 is a more complex part (20 pins ) that interleaves two power stages. Its advantages are that it is possible to design a lower profile power supply with more design features. For example the UCC28070 senses input voltage and this can be used to implement a brownout feature. It has a quantized multiplier that helps with fast response to line transients. It also monitors switch current and has a constant power feature.

A design based on the UCC28180 is going to cost less than a UCC28070 because it will use one power stage compared to two but it will most likely be bulkier with less features. I don't know what your application is but it sounds like the UCC28180 is more suitable for your needs. I recommend that you compare the features of both parts as shown on page 1 of the relevant data sheets.
