LM3414 Eval Board RIADJ not adjusting

According to the datasheet, I swapped out RIADJ for a 31.6k Ohm resistor (for 100mA output). Now, there seems to be no resistance -- putting my DMM leads across the resistor pads shows 0 resistance. When I removed this resistor from the circuit, the DMM showed 31.6k, and 0 resistance across the (open) pads. After close observation, I did not see any joined solder pads. Is it possible that the short is happening in the driver IC? I did operate the LED with this (broken) circuit before realizing it wasn't working.

  • It could be possible that pin was somehow damaged if you cannot see a solder short. If so it could have been and ESD event. The easiest way to be sure is to remove the IC and then ohm the pads and see what it says. If the short is gone then it's the IC and you should be fine if you replace it. If not it must be on the board.
