TPS2553D drooping characteristic

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2553D

Hi,

I would like you to confirm drooping characteristic of TPS2553D.

My customer try to use this device, but they could not observe this drooping characteristic.

Cin and Cout are used 0.1uF and Rilim is used 43Kohm. Then following result was observed.

They expected that  drooping characteristic can be observed, but they could observed un-expected result.

Is it expected result ? And if so, can not they observe drooping characteristic in this device ?

Machida

  • Hi Machida,

Thank you for using TI part, I will forward your question to the parts' design team, meanwhile, may I ask what is your customer application?

  • Hi Haidar-san,

    >may I ask what is your customer application?

I'm sorry, we could not get exact application. However, I heard it will be used for USB charger.

  • Hi Machida,

Figure 22 on TPS2553D datasheet that your customer refers to is an ideal behavior of the TPS25xxD family of Precision Adjustable Current-Limited Power-Distribution Switches, having that said, operating the device at (Ios) current-limit  increases the switch temperature until it reaches 135C then thermal shutdown occurs which is an expected behavior at this temperature, I have replicated your customer test  and got similar results, please see attached screenshot.  Finally, I wanted to remind your customer about the min (120 uF) required bypass capacitor at the (OUT) terminal  as part of USB requirements as noted in the device datasheet for such applications.

    Best regards,

    Haidar
