TLV61220 with current-limited supply and low output current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV61220, TPS610985

I need to create a 3.0V rail that can deliver 100-200µA of average current. The supply voltage varies from 0.7V to 1.5V and is only capable of supplying around 5mA max. I have no control over the power supply: it comes from another system from which my device harvests its power.

I assume that the regulator is going to always operate discontinuously with very low duty cycle in this application, pulling the inductor current from the input capacitor.

Given that I have such a low output current requirement, would it make sense to increase the inductor value, to say, 100UH, to reduce di/dt? What would be a suitable current rating for the inductor?

  • i would suggest TPS610985 instead of TLV61220 for your application.
i don't think a large inductance help from the operating principle of the device. please keep the inductor in 3.3uH or 4.7uH. and add bulk capacitor to the input of the boost converter.
