LED Driver Reference Book

I am an ME person who is interested in learning more about LED drivers. Can anyone recommend an entry level reference or textbook about power driver topologies and control schemes of high power LEDs?

  • Try our Lighting and Display website.  http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/gencontent.tsp?contentId=28887 You can download a couple of guides and seminars that may help.  In general, LEDs need constant current through them to give consistent brightness.  They set the voltage across themselves depending on the current through them and their temperature.   This is achieved with a dc/dc converter, appropriate for the input and output voltage conditions, that either (1) is an adjustable converter that has been modified to regulate current through a sense resistor or (2) has additional current sink circuits that pull current through the LEDs.
