bq25890 - IBAT(LOAD)(Battery discharge load current)

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask bq25890?

What is IBAT(LOAD)(Battery discharge load current 15mA) used for?
On REG03, is it possible to switch on/off?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Matsumoto-san,

The internal battery load (IBATLOAD) can be used with the internal ADC in order to determine if the battery is present. When enabled and no battery is present, the BAT pin voltage is pulled low, instead of floating high. The host software can then use the internal ADC to measure battery voltage and determine that the battery is not present.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you for your reply always.

We'd like to confirm one point.

->Otherwise, unless IBATLOAD is set enable, it not sure that BAT pin connects to battery, right?

  • Matsumoto-san,

When a battery is not connected, the BAT pin will float between VBATREG voltage and some lower voltage. The charger will go back and forth between reporting that the battery is fully charged and not charged. Using this internal pull down, V(BAT) is pulled down and so the host can use the ADC measurement of V(BAT) to confirm that the battery is not installed.

Thank you for your support always!
    OK, we got it.
