VOK after programming

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z655-R1, BQ20Z90

I am using the bq20z655-R1 in a 2s2p cell configuration and am having a problem.  When I create the .senc file after running the optimization routine and attempt to program another board, I get the R_DIS bit ON and the VOK bit OFF.  The same issue crops up if I extract a .rom image and use the Multi-Tester to program the board.  What allows the VOK bit to become enabled?   I have tried both charging and discharging the pack for several minutes and do not see the bit come on.  Is it necessary to apply an IT Enable (0021) command to the pack even after batch programming?

  • Impedance Track should be disabled in the golden senc or rom file that you program into production devices. You can then calibrate the pack and configure any pack specific parameters such as the serial number and manufacturing date. Finally, you would issue the IT Enable command and seal the pack prior to shipping it. The IT Enable command should set the QEN and VOK flags and clear the R_DIS flag.
  • OK, I am beginning to recall some of these things from when I had to write a new program for previous gas gauges (bq20Z90).

However, in doing this, I am now finding that when I issue the System Reset (0041) and Enable IT (0021) commands, the MaxError data entry jumps from 1% to 144%.  I remember seeing this in past programs, and was told that this is due to a mismatch between the cycle count in the .gg data and in the "hidden" data from the .senc file.  The only problem with this explanation is that I am following the procedure in the SLUA238 document as closely as possible.  In other words, I am loading the default .senc file bq20z655_R1_V0_03_BLD_0004.senc, updating it to the correct chemistry using the bqCHEM screen, and then loading the corrected .gg file with Update Status changed from 06 to 02 and Cycle Count reset to zero.

    Am I still missing something?

Please export a senc file from the pack and send it and the gg file that you loaded. I will check them.

  • Tom,

I have provided the .gg and .senc files directly to your e-mail as I cannot figure out how to attach files to forum posts.
