TPS61251 frequently burns

Hi,

I use TPS61251 to boost voltage from 3.7V to 5.5V. The circuit is exactly based on the value of Fig.6 of the datasheet (SLVSAF7B –SEPTEMBER 2010–REVISED JULY 2015). Out of 20 boards, TPS61251 burnt after a week of usage on 4 of those boards. Is there any idea what the reason can be? Any suggestion how to protect the device?

the issue could be related to the PCB layout. could you share the schematic and layout of the TPS61251

The layout is bad. the COUT should be closed to IC and the routing must be short and strong. and the thermal pad must be connected to GND.

Hi Jasper,

Thanks for the reply. I will connect the thermal pad to Ground. I have also highlighted C_out below. Do you still think C_out is too far? or do you think just widening the routing should be enough?
