Hi all,

Please let me know about BQ33100-EVM and GUI.

[1]
In datasheet, 2-pin is "Not used and must be connected to VCC", However in EVM schematic, 2-pin is opened.
Which is the correct?

[2]
If this device to use for 5-cells, is 13-pin to opened?

[3]
On table 81, default number is 0x04a8, but I read out 0x0208 from explanatory text of registor.
Is default number(bit) shift to left?

[4]
When set to 0x0208 at "OperationalCFG", indicated 4-voltages on GUI window.
Please let me know how to setting for 3-capacitors.

[5]
I found a sentence of "Capacitor Voltage Balancing is only operational after the ManufacturerAccess Lifetime and Capacitor Balancing Enable (0x21) command is sent to the bq33100.".
Please let me know how to send a command 0x21 from GUI to EVM.

Regards,
Nagai

  • Hello Nagai-san,

[1] Either is acceptable, but connection to VCC is preferred. Connecting to VCC increases board-level ESD protection.

[2] Pin 13 us used to for capacitor balancing for the 5th capacitor. See Figure 18 (reference schematic) in the datasheet for correct connections. If less than 5 capacitors are used, it must be tied to VSS.

[3] Table 81 (0x04a8) for the default is incorrect. The correct value is 0x0308 as shown in table 62.

    [4] 0x01xx is for 2 capacitors, 0x02xx is for 3 capacitors, 0x03xx is for 4 capacitors and 0x04xx is for 5 capacitors.

[5] The command is SBS CMD 0x0021 shown in table 40. Use the Manufacturer Access to write 0x0021.

  • Hello Dick,

    Thank you for reply.
Currently, I using 3 capacitors. However, GUI indicate 4 voltages.
Do you have knowledge of this matter?

    Regards,
    Nagai

  • Nagai-san,

Can you send your schematic for the bq33100?

    Regards,

    Dick

  • Dick-san,

I will prepare it for that.
    Please wait for few days.

    Regards,
    Nagai
