BQ40Z60 3-cell pack without individual cell terminals

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60, BQ34110, BQ34Z100-G1

I plan using BQ40Z60 for management of the 3-cell Li-Ion battery pack, which has only 2 battery terminals - no terminals between each cell.

How connect the pack? To SRP and VC1, and connect unused VC2, VC3 and VC4 to VC1 too?

The BQ40Z60 datasheet says, that Vin max of the VC1 is "VSS + 8.5 V, or VSS + 30 V". Is it VSS + 8.5V or VSS + 30V ?

We do not recommend using the bq40z60 for applications where you do not have access to the internal voltage nodes. These nodes will need to be connected on the device and your alternative will be to place a resistor string with taps to provide these internal voltages to the device. You should be able to use 10k resistors, but they will provide a constant load to the cells and can interfere with Qmax updates. I recommend using either the bq34110 or the bq34z100-G1 for applications where you do not have access to the internal voltage nodes. The only problem is that these devices are just gauges and do not provide any protection or FET control.
