TLV7111233DSER Current Draw?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV711

Hi this is probably a simple question. We are using a TLV7111233DSER LDO to source a 1.2V channel with a 4ma current draw and a 3.3V channel with a 3mA current draw. We understand that each channel has a 200mA current limit. Does that mean that a power supply will have to source 400ma to our LDO to regulate to our desired channels? How much current does the LDO consume, separate of what it supplies?

  • Hi Neil,

The LDO output current from an LDO is determined by the load of the LDO. If your load only requires 4mA, the source will not need to source much more than 4mA. You will want to have a source that can supply a bit more than the sum of the load current and the LDO ground current (which can be found in the datasheet). You will likely want to add in a bit more current so that your source can supply the inrush current to charge the capacitors at startup.

For TLV711 Ignd is typically 360uA when both channels are at the full rated current. Figures 38 through 40 of the datasheet will give you an idea of how the ground current of the family changes over load and temperature.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
